TOMAHAWK, Wis. (WSAW) - Bootlegger’s Lodge in Tomahawk will be part of a Taste of the Draft event, put on by the Packers next month during the NFL Draft.
The event will be held at Schreiber Foods in Green Bay. The fundraiser features some of the best foods Wisconsin restaurants have to offer.
This supper club in Tomahawk is more than just that. From the lodging options to its place on the water, now it will also be known for taking part in the Taste of the Draft.
Bootlegger’s Lodge first opened in the late 1990s, but the building’s been around since the 1920s. This year the lodge has earned the honor of being invited to the 2025 Taste of the Draft.
An event that is the first of its kind and will showcase restaurants across the state.
“We’re in the Northwoods here, right? We usually don’t have, you usually don’t have that invite to get to be part of this process,” Bootlegger’s Owner Jake Flohr said.
Flohr says choosing the meal served at the event was a little tricky.
“We’re known for steaks, right? We’re Tomahawk. We like the big Tomahawk. So, we’re gonna go with that wagyu, you know we’re famous for that, filets. Everyone had a filet, I think even Krabbe’s is doing the filet,” Flohr said.
He says they decided to go with something else they’re known for. Especially since their chef seems to love to make it so much.
“We didn’t see the New York strip. So we’re just going to do a New York strip with a cherry demi glaze,” he said.
Chef Joe even made the steak for us to try, but he won’t be making the food at the Taste of the Draft either. Instead, it’ll be a caterer who makes the food for all of the supper clubs.
“They do this for the I think Stanley Cup, they do it for the NFL Super Bowl. They do it for everything. So, these guys are pros,” Flohr said.
Flohr says he and the staff are also glad to know that the proceeds of the event will be going to GENYOUth, an organization that supports school meal programs.
“To help all the kids, that’s what we all want to do here, right? You don’t know if there’s hunger going on out there, and it’s more than we even know about. So, to help with this program, it’s amazing,” Flohr said.
Flohr says they look forward to next month’s event and to be a good representation of northcentral Wisconsin.
