Hornets star LaMelo Ball out for season, team confirms

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - Charlotte Hornets star LaMelo Ball is out for the remainder of the season to undergo surgery, the team announced Friday.

The Hornets reported on Friday, March 28 that Ball needs to “undergo arthroscopic surgery to address a right ankle impingement.” Ball, a fifth-year guard for the Charlotte team, was out for a week at the end of January due to a sprained ankle, and his play time has reportedly been affected by ankle issues throughout the season.

Ball will be out for the remainder of the 2024-2025 season -- which is slated to end with a game on April 13. He won’t be playing in Friday night’s game against the Toronto Raptors.

In addition to the arthroscopic surgery, Ball will have a “minor procedure on his right wrist,” officials said.

“Ball is expected to make a full recovery and have a complete off-season regimen of work, returning to full basketball activity within four to six weeks,” the team said in a press release.
