Eagles Legend Reveals ‘Prayer’ and ‘Fairy Tale’ to Final Decision

Few legends in Philadelphia sports carry the kind of legacy that Brandon Graham has done with the Eagles.

15 years of starting experience, multiple big plays, and two Super Bowl rings are just the surface of what the Michigan product's been able to put on the field since 2010. Originally considered a bust early in his career, Graham worked his heart out and has become not just the longest tenured Eagle in team history, but the greatest in that same boat.

With his official retirement announcement last week, the Eagles, Graham has shared the exact moment when he decided to call it a career this offseason after helping the team win their second Super Bowl title this past February.

"It wasn't until his exit meeting with general manager Howie Roseman a week before the start of free agency that Graham knew for sure that he would be stepping away from the game," ESPN's Tim McManus said. "Howie said, 'Man, this is such a fairy-tale ending for you.

"But I'm going to let you decide on what you want to do.' I was like, 'Man, you know what? It's over. ... My prayer was pretty much said to me in a way to go ahead and retire.'"

Graham retired third on the team all time in sacks, tops in franchise history in games played, and forced the fumble in Super Bowl LII that has since changed the course of Eagles history forever.

His interview with McManus is the first since his retirement announcement.

But while Graham may not be on the sidelines moving forward, there's clearly more to do for the organization to keep their star player around for the future.
