CHARUKESI RAMADURAI

GYEONGJU, South Korea -- In early April last year, I went to South Korea in search of cherry blossoms, and I found them in abundance in Gyeongju, in the southeastern corner of the country, which was wearing a thick coat of white and pink to celebrate this most glorious of seasons.

Japan is well known internationally for its _sakura_ (cherry blossom) season, which attracts eager tourists from all over the world, as well as locals who dress up for _hanami_ -- the Japanese tradition of getting together to admire these ephemeral blooms and celebrate the change of season.
