Would you cut off your pinky finger if it meant the Utah Jazz won the Cooper Flagg sweepstakes?

Watching Cooper Flagg dominate in the NCAA tournament has been a lot of fun, and it’s been a strong reminder of what the Utah Jazz are working for with this season. There is no way the Utah Jazz would ever get someone like Cooper Flagg in any other way than through the draft. He’s not signing here in free agency and the cost to trade him would be more than the Jazz could ever pay.

Of course, this does mean the Jazz have to win the NBA lottery. The odds are in the Jazz’s favor but there’s no guarantee they’ll get the #1 pick. And that brings up a reasonable and obvious question: Would you cut off your pinky finger if it meant the Utah Jazz drafted Cooper Flagg?

My answer is, of course, yes, and I wouldn’t think twice. I’d get a butcher knife from the knife block, put my hand on the table, and chop that thing off without any remorse.

Here’s why.

What is the Utah Jazz's greatest sports moment? Without a doubt it’s John Stockton’s shot over Charles Barkley that sent the Jazz to the NBA Finals. Of course, we know how that ended. And that’s really it for Jazz fans. There’s not an obvious #2 outside of the different finals games including Stockton and Malone. Is it Deron Williams and Carlos Boozer leading the Jazz to the Western Conference Finals? Is it Donovan Mitchell, Rudy Gobert and Ricky Rubio beating Russell Westbrook and Paul George in the first round of the playoffs in Donovan Mitchell’s rookie season? Your answer is as good as mine.

Winning the NBA lottery would instantly be a top-5 Utah Jazz moment, and I’m willing to sacrifice all pinky promise ability and elegant tea party etiquette for it.

The question is, would you?
