JD Vance berates Denmark over Greenland: You've not done a good job

US Vice President JD Vance on Friday reiterated President Donald Trump's plans to take control of Greenland as he blasted Denmark for "not doing a good job" by the people of the territory. Speaking during his visit to US troops at the Pituffik Space Base, alongside his wife and other officials, the 40-year-old, however, assured the Greenlanders that the US would not use military force to annex the territory from Denmark. Instead, he urged the people to cut ties with the Scandinavian nation, which has owned Greenland for over 300 years.

Ahead of the visit, Usha Vance termed it a "cultural tour", but it was ultimately scaled back following an uproar by Greenlanders and Danes, who reportedly were not consulted about the US second couple's original itinerary. The Vances, instead, stopped by in Greenland for a few hours, with posts flooding social media and calling them out for visiting the territory where they are not welcome.

A poll in January showed that a significant majority of Greenlanders are against the idea of annexation by America.

Taking a shot at Denmark, JD Vance specifically called out countries for taking an interest in Greenland's routes and minerals. Additionally, he urged Greenlanders to embrace "self-determination" as the US Vice President appeared to minimise Trump's recent threats to take over the Arctic island by force.

"We think we're going to be able to cut a deal, Donald Trump-style, to ensure the security of this territory," he said.
