No Pittsburgh Steelers positional coach travelled as much during this year’s Pro Days as wide receivers coach Zach Azzanni. Already attending the Tennessee, Big 12, and Pitt (granted, that one is literally in their backyard) Pro Days this month, he made a presumably final stop in Oxford Friday to attend the Ole Miss workout to evaluate their lineup of receivers.
We spotted Azzanni throwing to receivers in video of the day as captured by The Ole Miss Spirit’s YouTube account. Others also captured him throwing to receivers during on-field drills.
Pittsburgh was well-represented at Ole Miss, Assistant GM Andy Weidl and former cornerback and unofficial team scout Ike Taylor joining Azzanni on the trip.
Ole Miss has three receivers with good odds of being drafted: Tre Harris, Antwane Wells Jr., and Jordan Watkins. Harris is the top name of the trio to hear his name called. Well-proportioned at 6023, 205 pounds, Harris jumped well at the NFL combine with a 38.5-inch vertical though his speed is average on-field and in testing, turning in a 4.54.
In our scouting report, we praised Harris for his downfield tracking of throws and ability to make strong hands outside his frame. We knocked him for being a build-up speed runner whose routes are too rounded. Injuries also slowed down his career. Still, he finished 2024 with 60 receptions and more than 1,000-yards, averaging 129-yards per game. A high school quarterback, Harris began his career at La Tech before transferring to Ole Miss in 2023. Our report concluded:
“Tre Harris is a playmaking machine that thrives in downfield and red zone situations but also has shown a propensity to be a quality target on the intermediate for his quarterback. He possesses sneaky quickness and acceleration, making him a dangerous YAC threat with the ball in his hands down the field after the catch or if he gets into space. He will be challenged more by NFL quality cornerbacks, but Harris has the talent, toughness, and tenacity to hold his own as a WR2 in an offense with the talent to grow into a WR1.”
And gave him a first round grade.
Wells and Watkins joined Harris at the Combine. Wells weighed in at 6006, 201 pounds and turned in a 4.58 40. A situational deep threat, he caught just 28 passes in 2024 but made them count, averaging nearly 20-yards per grab with six touchdowns. He transferred from South Carolina to Ole Miss for his final season.
Our scouting report noted his strong Shrine Bowl week and overall tape that displayed body control and leverage along with being willing to block. However, Wells must improve his route running and releases while his overall college production is light with 99 career receptions. We gave him a fourth-round grade.
Finally, Watkins is the smallest of the bunch at 5111, 196 pounds. He’s also the fastest, blazing a 4.37 on Indy’s track. Our scouting report praised his speed and YAC ability although he may be a slot receiver-only at the next level. Receiving a fourth-round grade, our comp landed on Devin Duvernay.
Though a tight end, Caden Prieskorn also took part in drills. He spent the past two years at Ole Miss after transferring from Memphis, recording 57 catches for 850 yards and seven touchdowns the last two years. He could be a late Day Three selection or quality undrafted free agent pickup.
