Russell Westbrook and the Denver Nuggets haven't been able to find much of a rhythm over the last ten games, recording a 5-5 record.
On Friday, the Nuggets looked for the first winning streak since early March, taking on Collin Sexton and the Utah Jazz.
Coming into the game, Westbrook had totaled 9,885 career assists since joining the NBA in 2008. This was good for No. 9 on the all-time regular season assists leaders, trailing Cincinnati Royals legend Oscar Robertson (9,887) for No. 8.
With 10:39 remaining in the second quarter, Westbrook hit Nuggets' Zeke Nnaji for a dunk, marking his third assist of the game and 9,888th of his career.
In doing so, Westbrook now passes Robertson for No. 8 on the NBA's all-time assists leaders.
The NBA reacted to the news with a post on X.
"And congrats to @russwest44 of the @nuggets for also moving into 8th on the all-time ASSIST list!"

Now, Westbrook trails Los Angeles Lakers legend Magic Johnson (10,141) for No. 7 on the all-time assists list and Mark Jackson (10,334) for No. 6.
Assists wasn't the only all-time list Westbrook climbed against the Jazz. Just before he recorded his historic assist, Westbrook secured his first steal of the night and 1,945th of his career. He now moves past Kobe Bryant for No. 16 on the NBA's all-time steals leaderboard.
Westbrook trails Derek Harper (1,957) for No. 15 on the all-time steals list, and with seven games remaining after Friday, passing Harper becomes a real possibility.
After the Jazz game, Westbrook and the Nuggets will continue a five-game home stand with Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday before taking on the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday.
