Washington’s most dominant wins since 2000: Hey, look, another big win against Idaho

As we go through this trip down memory lane, exploring the depths of the WAshington Husky football record book, we’re going to find quite a few wins by 30 or more points since the turn of the century. Dating back to 2000, the Washington Husky football team has seen quite a few dominant performances over the past 25 seasons.

And that includes the 2003 win against the Idaho Vandals. Yes, we just talked about Washington beating Idaho in a pretty lopsided fashion. And yes, we just talked about how the Huskies beat a team by 31 points.

But now, let’s go ahead and take a quick look at how the Huskies steamrolled the Vandals by a lovely 31 points (it’s fun if you like UW, it’s not fun if you like Idaho, I guess) during the 2003 season.

Exploring the most dominant wins in Washington Husky football history since 2000: Beating Idaho again, this time by 31 points, in 2003

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I really don’t think this one was close and there are plenty of numbers to back that one up. First and foremost, there’s that whole margin of victory number. Washington scoring 45 and Idaho scoring 14 means that UW won by 31 points.

That’s a fairly big number. I don’t have that many fingers and toes, you know? But also, there are a few other things that showcase just how lopsided of a win this was for the Huskies.

Here are some facts and figures and fun (and just generally things you need to know) related to this big win for the Washington Huskies over the Idaho Vandals:

* **Score**: Washington Huskies 45 vs. Idaho Vandals 14

* **Margin of Victory**: 31 points

* **Coaches**: Keith Gilbertson vs. Tom Cable

* **Washington's leading passer**: Cody Pickett (20-29, 234 yards, 0 TDs, 1 INT, 129.8 rating)

* **Washington's leading rusher**: Rich Alexis (22 carries, 116 yards, 5.3 avg, 2 TDs)

* **Washington's final record**: 6-6

* **Washington's bowl destination**: None (which isn't great)

Idaho did a bit better in that the Vandals scored 14 points and they didn’t lose by 50 points this go round. They deserve some credit there, I suppose. But, uh, this one wasn’t close.

How did the Washington Huskies beat up on Idaho once again?

-----------------------------------------------------------

The Huskies had nearly 300 yards of total offense more than Idaho did. Which, you know, is a lot. The Huskies gained 502 yards of total offense. Idaho had just 206. So, uh, that’s definitely in Washington’s favor.

The Huskies had 27 first downs. Idaho had just 10. If you want to talk about offensive success and then offensive struggles, those two numbers there really help paint the picture of how Washington was a much more successful team here.

Heck, the Huskies were able to really beat up on Idaho in a few different ways. We’re talking about a game in which things were really balanced for the UW offense as the Huskies ran for over 230 yards and then threw for more than 270 yards.
