"Do The Deal" - Danny Murphy Backs Liverpool To Use Portuguese Ace In Swap For £150M Summer Target Also Linked To Arsenal - Exclusive

Danny Murphy believes Liverpool should be prepared to use Diogo Jota in their attempts to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle.

The Magpies were credited with an interest in the Portuguese international earlier this month, and speaking exclusively to Walk On (courtesy of Poker Firma), Murphy said it would make sense for the Reds to offer Jota in part exchange for Isak:

“I think if we if we look at the question directly, if Newcastle were interested in Jota and wanted to use him or were prepared to use him and money to get Isak then I think do the deal.”

With it being reported that Newcastle are holding out for a fee in the region of £150m, you do feel that Liverpool would need to include players in order for them to afford Isak.

Liverpool have been in touch with Isak’s entourage

The Premier League leaders are big fans of the Swedish international. Journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed a couple of weeks ago that the Merseysiders have “made some contacts with people close to the player”.

Of course, that doesn’t necessarily mean the club will mount a formal bid to sign Isak, but they are clearly interested in bringing the striker to Anfield.

Competition for Isak is fierce

Arsenal are known to have made the 25-year-old their top target for the summer transfer window so that will complicate Liverpool’s plans as they try to secure the player’s signature.

In these situations, the best policy is to get the target’s approval first. As we saw when the Reds tried to buy Moises Caicedo in the summer of 2023 for a club record fee, you can end up looking foolish if the player has already committed themselves to another team.
