Manchester United are set for a squad overhaul this summer as they aim to build a squad capable of challenging for the title under Ruben Amorim.

It is no secret that Manchester United are going to have a very busy transfer window this summer, as there are several players who are running out of contract and others who are likely to be sold.

United could be set to sell eight players this summer to boost their transfer funds and allow Ruben Amorim to bring in the players that suit his system and style of football.

Some big names will have to leave Old Trafford if they are to make a few signings themselves due to the club’s current precarious Profit and Sustainability Rules position, as they need to make sure they avoid any sort of points deduction.

Nine players that could leave Manchester United

Seeing as the Red Devils will need to create some funds and space in order to bring in new players for Amorim, they could allow these nine players to leave Old Trafford in the summer window. There are four players whose contracts are expiring in June, with the most significant being Victor Lindelof, who has been at Old Trafford for eight seasons, but it is understood that there is no intention to extend his contract.

Christian Eriksen is also set to leave the club as his contract is expiring. It has been reported that he is already plotting his next challenge, but it is not yet clear whether he will stay in the Premier League or move elsewhere. Jonny Evans and Tom Heaton are also set to leave the club at the ages of 37 and 38, their contracts expire in June too.

In terms of players that United are most likely to sell, Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Antony all look set to leave after their current loan spells away from the club. Rashford has a £40m buy option in his loan deal at Aston Villa, Antony will be sold after his time with Real Betis which has been successful so far.

Chelsea have an obligation to buy Sancho for between £20m and £25m, but the Blues could decide to turn this down, but they would have to pay a ‘cancellation’ fee for the obligation to buy. They are expected to buy him from United. Furthermore, the Blues were also linked to Kobbie Mainoo in January, and the midfielder could be sold in the summer for a fee of around £70m in order to generate ‘pure profit’ with regards to PSR.

Finally, goalkeeper Andre Onana’s future at the club is very uncertain as his performances have been inconsistent this season at Old Trafford. He has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, and United could decide to sell him and find a new replacement in the summer.

Players who could leave Man United: Victor Lindelof, Jonny Evans, Tom Heaton, Christian Eriksen, Andre Onana, Kobbie Mainoo, Marcus Rashford, Antony, Jadon Sancho.

Players set to stay at Old Trafford

It is difficult to predict the players with an uncertain future that could stay at Old Trafford for next season, but apart from the squad staples such as Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo, anybody could leave the club. The first of four is Casemiro, which could come as a surprise, considering that the midfielder is 33-years-old and has fallen out of favour at United this season. However, former United keeper Ben Foster said that he thinks the Brazilian will stay at the club, as nowhere else is going to be prepared to match his hefty £300,000 per week plus salary, unless he moves to the Saudi Pro League.

Alejandro Garnacho is one of the United players to be linked with a move away from the club, there was interest in January from Chelsea and Napoli, but nothing emerged. The Argentine has shown in flashes that he can be an important figure for United, and due to his age of just 20, they could decide to keep him, considering his market value will only likely increase. Rasmus Hojlund is another United player with an uncertain future. His performances have been poor this season, and it looks as though the Red Devils will likely sign a striker in the summer. However, the Danish striker still has a lot of potential.

Finally, it hasn’t worked out for Mason Mount at United as he has struggled with injury problems, however, he is one of the few players in the squad that fits well into Ruben Amorim’s system and so we expect him to stay.
