Rajpal Brar gives latest injury update on senior star, unlikely to feature vs Chelsea

Richarlison is unlikely to feature for Tottenham against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on April 3

With the arrival of Mathys Tel on loan from Bayern Munich in January, there appears to be a major question mark on Richarlison’s future at Tottenham Hotspur.

The Brazilian international has been in and out of the Lilywhites’ side, largely due to his injury issues, since arriving in a £60million deal from Everton in the summer of 2022. The 27-year-old has barely featured this season, with injuries limiting him to only nine Premier League outings. Overall, he has played only 14 times, thus failing to provide backup to club-record acquisition Dominic Solanke.

Richarlison has not featured for Ange Postecoglou’s side since the 4-0 defeat against Liverpool at Anfield in the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final in the first week of February. The forward suffered a calf problem and has missed 10 games since.

The Richarlison transfer has not quite worked out for Tottenham.

Tottenham resume action after the international break with a trip across London to face rivals Chelsea on April 3. Discussing the state of play with Richarlison, Dr Rajpal Brar—a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist—claims the player is unlikely to be fit to face Chelsea next week.

“This sounds like a calf issue that hasn’t responded that well to rehab and that can happen with the calf complex,” Dr Rajpal Brar exclusively told Tottenham News.

“He’s also had multiple other soft tissue injuries this season which create dents in fitness and vicious injury cycles.

“It’s highly unlikely that he’s back right after the break for the next one.”

Ange Postecoglou will be hoping to have a fully fit Richarlison back in his squad as soon as possible for the final stretch of games

Richarlison’s Spurs career has been riddled with injuries. Ange Postecoglou stated before the second leg vs AZ Alkmaar at home in the Europa League that the 27-year-old will return after the March international break. This will be a significant boost for the North London club as they head into the business end of the campaign.

The forward’s absence has been felt as he provides a different dimension to the Tottenham attack than Solanke and Son up top. As Tottenham have made it to the Europa League quarter-finals where they will be up against German side Eintracht Frankfurt next month, Ange will expect to have Richarlison back in his squad and at least stay fit for the remainder of the season.

The timing of the final international break of the season could not have been better for the London side. Except for Radu Dragusin, all of Spurs’ injured stars are expected to be back in contention once action resumes. Let’s hope Richarlison recovers fully from his calf problem and makes a significant contribution during the final stretch of games.
