Wizards Gave Sweet Rookie-Themed Gifts For Reporters

It's about that time for the NBA. Around mid-March to April, most NBA fans and media personal have a general idea of who should be selected to the many regular season awards handed out. Teams are obviously campaigning for their players to be selected for these awards.

The Washington Wizards are campaigning for their young players to get an award in a unique way. Prior to their game against the Indiana Pacers, the Wizards gave out themed coffee cups, per Varun Shankar. On the coffee cups were the names of their players and the awards that they're competing for.

Alex Sarr, Kyshawn George, and Bub Carrington are all gunning to be in one of the two All-Rookie teams. Meanwhile, Bilal Coulibaly is also hoping to be selected for the All-Defense team after this season. The Wizards have some really great young players vying for recognition this season.

Sarr, in particular, is looking to be the first player in franchise history to win the award since Wes Unseld in 1969. He's up against some tough competition, though: San Antonio Spurs guard Stephon Castle is the runaway leader of the ROtY race so far this year. He's averaging 14.1 points, 3.2 rebounds, 3.6 assists this year to Sarr's 12.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks per game. Other players, like Atlanta Hawks' Zaccharie Risacher and Miami Heat's Kel'el Ware are in the mix.

The Wizards' rookies winning awards this season would be a nice consolation prize for the struggles they've had this season. At 16-57, the Wizards are once again guaranteed to win a lottery selection. Perhaps the next lottery selection they will have could finally lead them to the promised land.
