Saha Hopes Mateta And Gyokeres Rumours Are Not True As He Names The £54M Striker Who United Are "Crying Out For"

Ex-Manchester United forward Louis Saha believes his former club should sign a player this summer who can offer “guaranteed goals”.

It has been suggested that Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres and Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta are on the club’s shortlist of targets. However, speaking to Genting Casino, Saha said he fears that the club would be repeating the mistakes of the past, whereby a player is signed and doesn’t perform to the expected level:

“You need guys who will give guaranteed goals. I’m not saying Mateta and Gyokeres can’t do that, but right now it’s not established.”

“And we’ve seen a few players being in good form, signing for Manchester United and not performing, and not being able to actually get the standard we expected to play with.”

In order to guarantee that the Red Devils buy a reliable goalscorer, Saha suggested that the club go after a former Tottenham striker:

“For that strategy, they’re crying out for someone like Harry Kane, in the calibre of Harry Kane, that it’s known that he scores 30 goals a season, makes 20 assists. This is guaranteed.”

Is Kane a realistic target for Man Utd?

Reports in the German media suggest that the England captain has a release clause in his contract that means he can be signed for €65m (£54m) this summer.

However, that clause is only relevant if Kane is interested in moving clubs. For all intents and purposes, the 31-year-old seems to be happy with life at Bayern Munich.

The club’s transfer strategy has changed

Another factor that would likely make a move to Old Trafford unlikely is the shift in policy towards signing younger players. Kane will be 32 in July and he will have no sell-on value whatsoever.

With that in mind, fans should probably pay more attention to rumours linking the Red Devils with players such as Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike and RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko.

The forwards are 22 and 21 respectively with both reportedly set to make big moves from their current clubs at the end of the season.
