Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff is believed to be on Everton's wish-list going into the summer window.
The Geordie star is approaching a crossroads in his senior career after 217 appearances for Newcastle. Longstaff played a part in both legs of the Carabao Cup semi-final win over Arsenal but has not started a Premier League game since December.
Longstaff has one year left on his current deal and is courting the attention of both the Toffees and Manchester United. Everton were keen on signing Longstaff back in January but no deal could be struck with Newcastle fighting on three fronts at that time.
But Chronicle Live understands that David Moyes is keen to sign the North Shields lad and an early summer swoop could unfold. Longstaff's dilemma is that it has become increasingly difficult to find a way past the midfield three of Joelinton, Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali.
Even the added bonus of European football next year may not be enough to appease the 27-year-old who enters his peak years next season. Longstaff triggered an extra year on his current deal meaning he is contracted until summer 2026.
However, Newcastle know they could land a pure profit deal for the Academy product. Longstaff was saddened to see his close pal Elliot Anderson sold to Nottingham Forest last summer.
Longstaff stated in an interview last November: "With Elliot, it shows that sometimes you have to go away to show your value and show how good you are."
It remains to be seen where Longstaff figures in Eddie Howe's plans between now and the end of the season. But a late change of mind, due to tactical reasons at the Carabao Cup final, made for uneasy viewing for the diehard Newcastle fan's followers as the midfielder was stripped off ready for action before Emil Krafth was brought on instead.
