I’d say it would be a ‘pretty ambitious’ target for Ferguson just to get into the starting eleven. Once. That’d do for starters. Graham Potter has stifled West Ham’s attacking intent, although I have a forlorn hope that it is a ruse like a ‘Baldrick cunning plan’ to lull Wolves into a false sense of security, making sure the Midlands’ side are expecting just two up front from West Ham: Ferguson can be unleashed from the start to catch them unawares with Niclas Fullkrug appearing after an hour to continue the goalfest.
Dream on.
Anyways, that ambiguous headline above from the Irish Mirror doesn’t go into detail about ‘who’ is a target for ‘what’: Is Ferguson a target for West Ham’s acquisition? Or is the young Irish striker simply ‘targeting’ another goal? I know which one I’d tend to believe but the Irish news publication is hedging its bets.

Potter has to change the defensive-oriented system for ANY striker to be an ‘ambitious West Ham target:’ It could be Jonathan David, Tammy Abraham or a triumphant return for Marko Arnautovic but if Potter doesn’t select a threesome up front, it might just as well be Danny Ings for all the goal threat the Hammers will carry.
According to the irishmirror.ie, “Evan Ferguson believes his return to goalscoring form on the international stage can help kick-start his West Ham career.”
He’ll have to be quick, it only has nine games left to run: Ferguson, I’m sure, is ambitious. Potter is the pragmatist. Not certain that their interests coincide at all.
