Arsenal are said to be interested in snapping up an England youth international.
Arsenal are said to be showing an interest in a Championship talent as they look to invest in young talent. The Gunners have spent big money on senior stars over recent years, with Mikel Arteta getting firm backing from the board in a bid to end the club’s Premier League title drought.
Hundreds of millions has been spent in a bid to transform Arsenal from top four hopefuls to title contenders, and while they have indeed contended for the title, they have come up short.
More money will likely be spent this summer, with Arteta needing a striker and a winger, while they have also been tipped to sign a midfielder. Long-term, Arsenal would be wise to invest more in young talent to avoid paying such big fees so often, a strategy Chelsea have adopted over the last 18 months or so.
And there is some indication that the Gunners are looking to go that way, with Football Insider claiming that they are considering a deal for Blackburn Rovers talent Harvey Higgins. It comes after reports from The Sun that Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool had shown interest.
The young attacker has represented England at under-16 level, while he has stepped up to Blackburn’s under-18s at times, scoring once in three appearances for the team despite playing above his age group. The youngster is garnering a big reputation, and it’s reported Arsenal could move quickly in a bid to beat the other interested clubs to a deal.
Higgins is not yet eligible to sign a professional contract with Rovers, so Arsenal could move to snap him up before he is eligible. If they were to do that, they would need to either agree a compensation package with Blackburn, or if no fee can be agreed, it would be left for a tribunal to decide how much Arsenal would have to pay.
