Russia claims to have taken 2 villages in eastern Ukraine

**MOSCOW**

Russia claimed its forces had captured two villages in Ukraine's eastern Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia regions over the past day.

The Russian Defense Ministry said on Friday that Panteleimonivka in the Donetsk region and Shcherbaky in the Zaporizhzhia region had come under Russian control.

The ministry also reported carrying out seven coordinated strikes over the past week using precision weapons and drones, targeting military airfield infrastructure, ammunition depots, production workshops, storage facilities, and command centers for unmanned aerial vehicles.

"The objective of the strike has been achieved. All designated targets were hit," the statement read.

Over the past week, Russian air defense systems shot down two Ukrainian MiG-29 fighter jets and intercepted 27 JDAM guided aerial bombs and 20 US-made HIMARS multiple rocket launchers, along with 1,160 aircraft-type drones, according to the ministry.

Since the beginning of the Ukraine war in February 2022, the ministry said, Russian forces have destroyed a total of 660 aircraft, 283 helicopters, 48,879 drones, 601 air defense systems, 22,554 tanks and other armored combat vehicles, 1,532 multiple rocket launchers, 23,051 field artillery and mortars, and 33,475 special military vehicles.
