The final Newroz celebrations in Germany started today with great enthusiasm in Frankfurt's Rebstock Park.
The event is organised by KON-MED and YJK-E (Kurdish Women's Union in Germany) under the slogan of “Free Society and Free Leader” with the support of FED-MED, FED-GEL, KAWA, FED KURD and FED DEM federations.
Kurds and friends coming from all over Germany for the celebration started to fill the area from the early hours of the morning. People were transported to the area by buses from more than 160 centers in Germany and entered the Newroz area with slogans.
A great visual feast is presented with national costumes and waving flags, with a banner reading “Newroz Piroz Be” \[Happy Newroz\] decorating the stage. The area is filled with images of Abdullah Öcalan, PKK, YPG and YPJ flags, and images of pioneering militants and guerrillas martyred in the struggle for freedom.
Women's and youth movements set up newspaper, magazine and book stands in the area. Leftist and socialist organizations and many institutions also opened stands for cultural promotion. A tent decorated with original Kurdish colors by theater artist Amele is accompanied by the music of local artists and dengbejs.
Kurdish Red Crescent Heyva Sor also set up a tent in the area in solidarity with political prisoners in Turkey.
The Newroz program started with a minute of silence in memory of the martyrs and the singing of the Kurdistan national anthem Ey Raqip.
The celebration started with the greetings by officials of KON-MED and the federation organizing the event. KON-MED Co-Chairs Emine Ruken Akça and Kerem GÖK made speeches and congratulated Abdullah Öcalan and the Kurdish people on Newroz.
Ruken Akça said, “We have received Leader Apo's \[Abdullah Öcalan’s\] greetings and we will implement his new paradigm in all aspects of life in all four parts of Kurdistan. We wish all our people, especially Leader Apo a happy Newroz.”
Kerem Gök said, “Leader Apo's call was welcomed with great enthusiasm in all four parts of Kurdistan. This enthusiasm was reflected on the Newroz areas in four parts (of Kurdistan). The German state has also made a statement supporting Leader Apo's call for Peace and Democratic Society. However, this is not enough. The German Ministry of Interior should end the pressure on the institutions of the Kurdish people and actively support this new process.”
KNK (Kurdistan National Congress) Co-Chair Ahmet Karamus said: “Newroz 2025 was celebrated with great enthusiasm by Kurds and their friends. On behalf of the KNK and the Kurdish people, we dedicate this Newroz to Mr. Abdullah Öcalan. His ‘Call for Peace and Democratic Society’ will pave the way for the Kurdish people in the 21st century. We embrace this call and support it on behalf of all our people. Newroz was celebrated by millions of people and our people manifested their will and support for Mr. Öcalan's call in the fields. Since 1925, the Kurdish people have been waging a continuous struggle for freedom, identity and status, and we continue this struggle today in unity and solidarity.
The Kurdish people want peace, identity, status and freedom and continue this struggle in four parts. The unity declared in Rojava is an important step in the Kurdish people's search for a solution and peace. This unity is an example and a beginning for Kurds and parties, and we support it. This step taken for the unity of the Kurdish people and the solution process will strengthen the struggle for freedom and peace.”
The Newroz program continues with a music concert by Koma Hunera Azad.
