Tape Breakdown
It took six years for Zah Frazier to make a name for himself at corner. But he broke out in a loud way in 2024, picking off six passes and locking down his side of the field. The most recent in a long line of big and long UTSA cornerbacks, Frazier uses his size to his advantage in coverage. He jams and reroutes smaller receivers and likes getting his hands on immediately, controlling the route from the onset. Frazier is a plus man-to-man cover corner.
But he can make plays from off and has good zone eyes. His length is an asset at the catch point, too.
Frazier wasn’t often involved in the running game as a tackler and can flail and miss. He does an acceptable job of dragging receivers down in open grass, but this isn’t a strength of his game. These moments also show some of the tightness in his hips breaking down and changing directions.
Turning 25 in his rookie year with just one year of essentially playing at the FBS level isn’t a promising sign, either. Still, the light came on for him in 2024, so better late than never.
Conclusion
Overall, Zah Frazier has a small sample size of production to evaluate. What’s on tape is impressive, and he has the potential to be a strong cover corner who best fits in a man scheme or a heavy Cover 3 system. His tackling must improve, but if he can cover at a high level, teams will trade that for not being strong in run support.
I’ve made the comp a time or two before, but an Ahkello Witherspoon comparison is just too obvious here.
