Celebrations as Newcastle toasts Carabao Cup win

Fans descend on St James' Park from where an open-top bus will parade Newcastle United's Carabao Cup through the city's streets.

The day has finally arrived when fans of Newcastle United can come together to salute their footballing heroes who won their first domestic trophy in 70 years.

Hundreds of thousands of supporters are expected to line the city's streets to watch the players parade the Carabao Cup, triumphantly earned by the club a fortnight ago.

An open-top bus will carry the trophy - the first domestic one of its kind won for seven decades - from St James' Park to the Town Moor where more celebrations will take place.

Ant and Dec arrive

Geordie presenting duo Ant and Dec have arrived at St James' Park.

The pair, who posted their own celebrations from the Wembley win, are due to be part of the club's celebrations.

Black and white-clad supporters have been making their way into Newcastle's city centre and the Town Moor, which opened to the public at 1:30pm.

One man told ITV Tyne Tees he had travelled from Kent on a seven-hour coach which got in at 6am.

"I would have walked here if I could - I wouldn't have missed it for the world," he said.

The die-hard fan said the club meant "everything" to him since he was a little boy, adding: "I never thought I would see this day and I'm gonna spend it with my mum who has early onset dementia.

"It'll be a memory I'll always have - that I got to see us win a trophy and she gets to see it as well. It's a very special moment."

Another fan, a Geordie, had arrived from Leicester with his two children.

He said the club's win at Wembley earlier this month had been "one of the best days of my life".
