Man City are appointing a new director of football in the summer, and with it will surely come a new influx of players.
Manchester City are bound to oversee some drastic changes to the playing squad in the summer, and potentially to the backroom as well with Hugo Viana arriving as director of football as of the summer.
Already there’s reports that Viana wants to raid current club Sporting CP for some new Man City signings with Trincao a target along with Viktor Gyokeres, though former Sporting boss Ruben Amorim is also keen to bring the pair to Man United.
New names keep on being added to City’s summer wishlist. But it looks like Viana will oversee an almost compete rebuild of the club’s midfield department, specifically in the centre of midfield with Ilkay Gundogan looking likely to leave Man City, among others like Kevin De Bruyne.
The likes of Adam Wharton have been linked with Man City ahead of the summer transfer window, so too Bruno Guimaraes at Newcastle United who’s been a key target for Pep Guardiola for some time.

Eintracht Frankfurt star Hugo Larsson keen on Man City move
Now, another new name in Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Larsson has been added to City’s wishlist, and it looks like this might already be a quite advanced deal. Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg has revealed on X that ‘initial talks’ have already taken place between City and Frankfurt over a summer move.

The 20-year-old Swedish central midfielder, who’s scored three goals in 25 Bundesliga games for Frankfurt this season is also thought to be ‘keen’ on a summer move to the Etihad, though Frankfurt have set a price tag of €60million (£50million), with ‘Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham, and several other teams are also monitoring him’.
Interestingly, Larsson will be very familiar with Man City’s marquee January signing Omar Marmoush, who left Frankfurt for Manchester during the January transfer window just gone.

Omar Marmoush and Hugo Larsson’s stats when they’ve played together
Frankfurt signed Larsson from Malmo in May 2023, in the same month that Marmoush arrived from Wolfsburg. The pair spent the entirety of the 2023/24 together and then half of the 2024/25 campaign before Marmoush left for City.
The pair helped Frankfurt achieve a 6th place finish in the Bundesliga table with Marmoush scoring 12 and assisting six more in 29 Bundesliga outings, whilst Larsson scored twice and assisted once in 29.

With Guardiola viewing Marmoush as one of the few players that his future City XI could be built around, adding someone like Larsson who has prevailed in the same XI as Marmoush in the past, even chipping in with assists for him, could be a smart move.
But it’s a costly move and City have plenty of other positions to bolster in the summer transfer window too, so Viana really needs to be smart with his summer signings.
