Bucs Champion Signs With New Team To Get ‘Life-Humbling Fresh Start’

At one point in his NFL career, former first-round linebacker Devin White was seen as an All-Pro caliber player for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Things have fallen off the rails at this point for the former LSU star. And he's now fighting to keep his playing career alive.

Jordan Schultz of FOX Sports was first to report that White signed a one-year free agent deal with the Las Vegas Raiders Friday evening. White made the Pro Bowl in 2021 and has 585 career tackles with 23 sacks, 64 quarterback hits, three interceptions, and 21 pass breakups.

After requesting a trade two years ago after being benched in Tampa, White signed a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles in free agency. He was beaten out for a starting role in training camp, though, and was released in early October before ever playing a snap.

Now on his third team in three years, White understands that time is running out on his career.

"I don't know if I needed a change of scenery, but I feel like it was definitely good, a breath of fresh air to be able to start over and work my way from the ground up," White said. "There's nothing like a life-humbling experience."

While things didn't end well in Tampa, White has continued to push his love for former teammates and especially head coach Todd Bowles.

"That's a guy who always had my back, so if he said [White needed a change of scenery] then I really agree because he knows best," White said about Bowles. "He was a father figure to me, still to this day, and he checks in on me. "

White's career hangs in the balance. Now, he has to hope there is still time to save it this year in Vegas.
