HAVANA, Cuba, March 28 (ACN) Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez expressed deep sorrow over the severe human and material damage caused by a major earthquake that struck Thailand and Myanmar this Friday.
Through his official X (Twitter) account, the Minister conveyed the condolences of the Cuban people and government to the victims' families and wished both nations a swift recovery.
"We deeply regret the severe human and material damage caused by the powerful earthquake that affected #Thailand and #Myanmar. We wish these nations a speedy recovery and extend our heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims."
A 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck central Myanmar this Friday, also affecting neighboring Thailand, India, and southwestern China.
The quake, which occurred at midday local time, caused widespread devastation, with numerous collapsed buildings.
In Myanmar, authorities reported at least 144 dead and over 732 injured, though numbers may rise as rescue efforts continue.
In Thailand, at least seven people died after a collapsed skyscraper under construction in Bangkok, where 81 workers remain missing.
