The San Antonio Spurs are heading in the right direction. Victor Wembanyama has a chance to develop into being the best player in the NBA and the team was able to trade for star point guard De'Aaron Rox as well. Now, could they look to add a standout Duke Blue Devils' freshman to the mix?
If there is one thing the Spurs need to add this offseason, it is more shooting. To that end, targeting Duke sharpshooter Kon Knueppel could make a lot of sense.
Knueppel, a five-star freshman, will be an intriguing prospect in the 2025 NBA draft. He has put together a strong freshman season and has helped lead the Blue Devils to the Elite Eight.
Throughout the course of his freshman year, Knueppel has played in 37 games. He has averaged 14.2 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.0 steals per game, while shooting 48% from the floor and 39.9% from the 3-point line.
A new prediction has been released that has San Antonio landing Knueppel.
Bleacher Report analyst Jonathan Wasserman has released a new two-round mock draft. He has the Spurs landing Knueppel with the No. 9 overall pick.
"Watching Kon Knueppel drain quick-release threes, attack closeouts and finish plays in transition in recent weeks makes it easy to picture his fit and value at the next level," Wasserman wrote. "His shotmaking has been easy to buy, based on his balance and accuracy in every shooting situation. Teams may have a tough time buying a shot-creator, which limits possibilities when it comes to upside. He figures to wind up with a team that is looking to fill a need or hole with shooting, high-IQ play and instant results."
Not only did Wasserman offer the prediction that San Antonio would end up with Knueppel, he also revealed three players that the Duke standout compares to at the NBA level.
Those three players were Kevin Huerter, Corey Kispert, and Saddiq Bey.
Granted, they are not the most prolific comparisons, but Knueppel is going to be a shooting specialist at the NBA level. The Spurs will be looking to add an elite knockdown shooter and this would be one way to accomplish that goal.
