Club Brugge are plotting a move to sign highly-rated West Ham youngster Elisha Sowunmi, sources have told Football Insider.

Sowunmi, who is out of contract this summer, has yet to sign a pro deal with the Hammers after an impressive season with West Ham Under-18s.

The 17-year-old’s exploits have brought him onto the radar of a number of Premier League clubs and several sides from abroad.

Football Insider revealed back in November that West Ham offered a new deal to Sowunmi but an agreement has not yet been reached.

West Ham could lose Elisha Sowunmi amid growing interest

The highly-rated forward has enjoyed an outstanding season with the Hammers, netting 12 goals so far.

His impressive performances at the U18 level have already earned him opportunities with West Ham’s U21s as he is set to take the next step in his development.

He’s proven to be a key player for Lauris Coggin’s side, making 18 appearances this season, racking up 1,528 minutes on the pitch.

The young attacker signed scholarship terms with West Ham ahead of the 2023/24 campaign, but his rapid development has attracted interest from both domestic and international clubs.

There could have been a pathway to the first team, with Graham Potter already integrating young talents like Oliver Scarles into senior action.

West Ham’s famed academy has consistently produced talents, with the likes of Declan Rice and Grady Diangana breaking through in recent years. However, Sowunmi is still weighing up his options as interest in him continues to grow.

While the Hammers may be at risk of losing a young attacking talent, they are also in the market for an established forward to bolster their first-team squad.

Football Insider revealed that West Ham are plotting a summer move for Roma striker Tammy Abraham.

Potter is reportedly concerned about his attacking options, particularly after Niclas Fullkrug’s slow start, which has been hampered by injuries.

West Ham are also targeting Lille’s Jonathan David, with the Canadian international set to become a free agent this summer.

However, they face stiff competition for his signature, as Newcastle, Liverpool, and Manchester United are all closely monitoring his situation.

Potter’s side return to action on Tuesday (1 April), when they take on relegation-threatened Wolves in the Premier League.
