Jarrad Branthwaite’s future is expected to come into question at Everton once again this summer transfer window.

The Toffees held on to Branthwaite last year despite receiving multiple offers from Manchester United, and are set for a similar battle this time around.

Sky Sports reported earlier this week that the centre-back is considering his future at Everton after being left out of Thomas Tuchel’s first squad as the England manager this month.

Tottenham and Manchester City have kept on the 22-year-old’s situation at Goodison Park, while the Blues’ rivals across the park, Liverpool, are also in the mix.

Branthwaite update emerges amid PSR concern

Reacting to the report from Sky Sports, Chris Beesley has admitted that he finds it “strange” that Branthwaite has to leave Everton to boost his England career, considering Jordan Pickford is already the country’s first-choice goalkeeper.

MORE TOFFEES STORIES

The Liverpool Echo journalist is of the view that the defender must continue with the Toffees for another year and pointed out how David Moyes has already made a £100million player out of Declan Rice, suggesting the Carlisle-born player may be worth a similar fee if he stays one more year.

However, the reporter acknowledged the fact that the Merseyside-based club may have to battle PSR concerns for one more year, meaning they would have to raise funds through player sales.

“The reports that he was supposedly going to consider his Everton future because he had not been picked by England, which is strange given that Jordan Pickford has won all 75 of his England caps while he’s been at Everton”, Beesley said on the Royal Blue podcast (29 March).

“I would personally argue that Everton are the best place to continue his development, certainly for the next 12 months for me.

“Everton are going to be playing in front of the biggest regular crowds in their history, they have had a good season, next season is at a new stadium…

“Moyes has already produced one of the two £100m English players in Declan Rice. Why not [consider the possibility of] Branthwaite going on to bigger and better things with another good season at Everton?

“Moyes has already been on record saying there’s probably one more PSR bill to pay as well, and he’s the club’s most valuable asset.”

Everton to cash in on Branthwaite

The Friedkin Group have steadied the ship since buying Everton from Farhad Moshiri in December, pumping an additional £289m into the Blues among other things.

However, it will take the Toffees some more time to completely shake free from the consequences of Moshiri’s nightmarish reign on Merseyside.

That is why the Blues may have to curb hopes of blockbuster signings for one more summer transfer window.

Their existing PSR concerns mean that they could also be forced to cash in on Branthwaite this summer.

The Friedkins could find it hard to resist if they receive an offer in excess of £50m for the central defender.
