More than 1,600 people are now known to have died in Myanmar, and thousands more injured after the powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake, as more bodies were pulled from the rubble of collapsed buildings.
The quake struck around midday on Friday – near the country’s second city of Mandalay – followed by a series of strong aftershocks, causing widespread damage in swathes of the country, including the capital Naypyidaw.
In the last few minutes, reports say Myanmar’s main resistance movement has declared a partial ceasefire to help earthquake relief efforts.
