Newcastle United staged quite the party on Saturday night.
At long last, the Newcastle United players and staff were able to celebrate their Carabao Cup win earlier this month with supporters.
The city was packed on Saturday as Eddie Howe and his triumphant players made their way from St James’ Park to the Town Moor on an open top bus, with further celebrations taking place once the convoy had reached its final stop.
After a 70 year-wait for a major domestic trophy, it felt a cathartic experience for all involved. While the scenes at Wembley and in London more generally were fantastic earlier this month, this was the true homecoming.
As was expected, Newcastle fans were in good spirits, which of course feels like an understatement.
So much so that even Howe himself was shocked.

Eddie Howe shocked at Newcastle United fans during Carabao Cup bus parade
Supporters lined the streets as the bus made its way past the stadium and embarked on its journey.
Famous fans Ant and Dec were aboard the bus and interviewed a number of players as well as the Newcastle United manager.
While Howe will know just how passionate the fans are, even he was surprised to see some of them hanging off lampposts and from other potentially dangerous heights as they tried to get a better view.
