Louise Bryant cried tears of joy at Newcastle United's Carabao Cup celebration parade

An NUFC fan whose crocheted post box topper stands at St James' Park cried tears of joy at Saturday's parade which saw 150,000 fans pack the streets of Newcastle.

Louise Bryant, 56, spent 30 hours crocheting a post box topper ahead of Newcastle United facing Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final, and later added a huge Carabao Cup when the Magpies brought the trophy home. Though she watched the Carabao Cup final at her home in Cramlington, there was no way that she was missing the celebrations which turned the city into a sea of black and white.

Louise told ChronicleLive from the parade: "Honestly, I have been standing here crying. We had a really good view, and it was such a fantastic atmosphere.

"We've been here with my partner and his 13-year-old son, we've been saying it'll be him on that bus in six years' time. It was absolutely brilliant, everybody singing and cheering, it was just great."

Louise has no plans to add anything extra to the post box topper she created, and was told it was stolen again last weekend. The first time it disappeared, she picked it up from the Azure Blue pub in Gateshead, where a punter was allegedly trying to sell it on.

And it was a similar story the second time round. Louise said: "A lad messaged me on Facebook to say that someone was trying to sell it in the pubs on Percy Street, he'd been telling people he'd bought it for £60.

"He said that wasn't the case and put it back on the post box. It's got loads of wire around it now.

"It was only missing for a few hours so I'm glad it's back!"
