Wolves right-back Nelson Semedo is potentially approaching his final few months at Molineux after almost five years at the club.
Semedo sees his Wolves contract expire in June 2025, alongside veteran winger Pablo Sarabia, in what promises to be a telling couple of months.
Vitor Pereira openly wants to keep Semedo, seeing the captain as a vital part of his squad but his age and high wages mean negotiating a new deal would be difficult.
The 31-year-old has been linked with a return to Benfica, potentially linking up with former Wolves manager Bruno Lage, although there is one problem.
Benfica can’t afford Semedo’s wages, which means clubs from Saudi Arabia and the MLS could swoop for him. While that is the case, the Portuguese right-back isn’t the only player who should be handed a new contract.

Wolves should give Yerson Mosquera a new contract
At the start of this campaign, Wolves fans were applauding the performances of Yerson Mosquera, who was a rare shining light in defence during a difficult start.
The 23-year-old featured in the first five Premier League games, with Gary O’Neil watching the youngster become a domineering figure in the heart of defence.
Unfortunately, the Colombian’s world came crashing down in the loss to Aston Villa as Mosquera suffered an MCL and ACL injury, sidelining him for the remainder of the 2025/26 campaign.

Mosquera’s ‘recovery is going really well’, as revealed in February, and he should return to the squad during the summer, which will be cause for optimism.
In the meantime, Wolves have to think about tying the centre-back down to a long-term contract with his current one expiring in June 2026.
Yerson Mosquera in the Colombian Categoría Primera A:
✅16 games
✅1 goal
✅56 passes
✅88% pass accuracy
✅2.9 tackles won per 90
✅5.6 interceptions per 90
✅72% aerial duels won
✅72% defensive duels won
Quite impressive.

Although there is no rush to discuss fresh terms, Mosquera is an ‘impressive’ talent, as described by talent scout Jacek Kulig, and could easily form a part of their defence for the next decade.
Some may think it’s a gamble handing someone a contract who has been injured for six months but planning ahead is crucial, and Colombian international has already shown he should be an integral part.
Mosquera’s 2024/25 stats
A physically imposing presence at the back but equally exceptional with the ball at his feet, it’s a mouth-watering prospect seeing Mosquera partner Toti Gomes and Emmanuel Agbadou in the back three next season.
The trio together have a blend of strength, power, composure and defensive awareness, which could take their defence to the next level.
Mosquera may have only played five matches in 2024/25 before being struck by injury but the statistics explain why he’s been sorely missed, impressing across an array of metrics.
Yerson Mosquera’s 2024/25 statistics
2 interceptions per game
2.2 tackles per game
4.8 balls recovered per game
86% pass completion
5.8 total duels won per game (62%)
1.4 fouls drawn per game
2.8 clearances per game
Impressively, the Wolves gem has the potential to become a top defender, displaying a skillset that is sought-after and one that warrants a new contract.
