Andre Onana has been linked with a move away from Man United after struggling for consistency again this season

Man United are set to see a major overhaul of their squad this summer, as they aim to build a side capable of thriving under Ruben Amorim. Their immediate needs are at the striker, centre-midfielder and wing-back positions.

One spot that is currently up for debate is the goalkeeper position, as Andre Onana has been good in flashes this season, but has struggled with mistakes and inconsistency at Old Trafford. Onana has made 40 appearances for the Red Devils this season, conceding 53 goals and keeping just nine clean sheets. Reports have emerged recently linking Onana with a move to the Saudi Pro League, and it is not yet clear as to whether Amorim wants to keep the Cameroon international.

If he was to leave, United will be keeping an eye on potential replacements for the 28-year-old. Here is five potential names that could replace Onana at Man United for next season.

Gregor Kobel - Borussia Dortmund

Firstly, Dortmund keeper Kobel has previously been linked to both United and Chelsea, and so could see a summer move to the Premier League. Any move regarding Kobel is expected to cost a hefty fee of £58m, meaning that United will need to ensure they get good money for Onana, should he leave.

Kobel has made 37 appearances for the Bundesliga side this season, conceding 52 goals and keeping 10 clean sheets. He is also the first-choice keeper for the Swiss national team, and has so far made 11 appearances for them.

The 27-year-old is under contract at Signal Iduna Park until June 2028, and has not shown any indication that he is willing to leave Dortmund, but when United come calling, it could be an offer too good to refuse.

Aaron Ramsdale - Southampton

Ramsdale is one keeper who is almost certain to move in the summer transfer window, as it looks set that Southampton are going to face relegation to the Championship. The England international will be keen to move back to the Premier League. The likes of Chelsea and Leeds United are said to be interested in him so far, but the Red Devils have not been linked.

Ramsdale’s numbers aren’t brilliant this season, but it is difficult to judge his personal performances due to the leaky defence of the Saints. They paid just £20m for him from Arsenal in the summer, and so could provide United with a budget alternative to someone such as Kobel. He has shown that he’s capable of playing in a title-contending team at Arsenal, and will now be looking for his next move as he looks to reclaim his spot in the England national team ahead of next year’s World Cup.

Lucas Chevalier - Lille FC

The next name is a keeper that has been linked to Man United in recent weeks in the form of Lille’s Lucas Chevalier, who has established himself as one of the most exciting young keepers in world football. The 23-year-old has made 40 appearances for the French Ligue 1 side this season, conceding 45 goals and keeping 11 clean sheets. The downside with Chevalier is that Lille will likely place a hefty price tag on the Frenchman.

He has been called up for the France national team, but he didn’t see the pitch as he has become a backup to first-choice keeper Mike Maignan. However, Chevalier would certainly be the best long-term solution at the position for United due to his age and high potential.

Caoimhin Kelleher - Liverpool

It is rare to see a player move from Man United to Liverpool, but Kelleher could be a solid replacement for Onana, as he has shown that he is more than capable of being a starting keeper in the Premier League. He impressed earlier this season when standing in for Alisson at Liverpool, and seeing as the arrival of Giorgi Mamardashvili is imminent at Anfield, Kelleher is in line to seek a transfer away in the summer.

The Ireland international has been linked to Chelsea amongst others, and could provide Amorim with a steady option in goal, who doesn’t have a history of mistakes, and has a very impressive winning record.

Senne Lammens - Royal Antwerp

Finally, a stopper that United have been linked to in recent days is Antwerp star Senne Lammens, who has also reportedly attracted interest from Manchester City, who are looking to replace Ederson in the summer. GiveMeSport reported that United are keeping tabs on the Belgian keeper as a potential replacement for Onana.

Lammens has made 33 appearances for the Belgian side this season, conceding just 36 goals and keeping seven clean sheets. He has the best numbers out of this list of five, however, is playing in the ‘easiest’ league. The 22-year-old is expected to cost around £30 million, making him one of the cheaper options, however, due to his young age, Lammens could turn into one of the best goalkeepers in European football.

Plus, despite not having experience in one of the top five leagues in Europe, he has made appearances in the Champions League for both Antwerp and during his time at Club Brugge before he moved in 2023.
