Ant and Dec’s dig at Liverpool star Alexis Mac Allister during Newcastle celebrations

Newcastle United were finally able to celebrate winning the Carabao Cup with their supporters on Saturday.

Almost two weeks on from Newcastle United’s first Carabao Cup win, Eddie Howe and his players were part of a parade from St James’ Park to the Town Moor.

Newcastle beat Liverpool 2-1 in the Carabao Cup final earlier this month but the players quickly had to jet off for international duty.

Saturday, however, brought more scenes of jubilation as the first Newcastle team since 1955 arrived back in the city as champions of a major domestic competition.

A whopping estimate of 150,000 fans were part of Newcastle’s celebrations, welcoming home Howe’s heroes for the first real time.

Ant and Dec were mobbed by Newcastle fans as they arrived for the parade and interviewed players and staff both on the bus and when the convoy reached the Town Moor.

Dec in particular made a little dig at Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister.

Alexis Mac Allister dig during Newcastle United’s Carabao Cup celebrations

The Argentine was the man to mark Dan Burn when Newcastle had a set-piece in the final and, perhaps unsurprisingly, that did not go well considering the vast difference in height.

Burn revealed he knew to target Mac Allister before scoring Newcastle’s first goal in the final, which was a fine header from a Kieran Trippier corner.

Speaking to the defender on stage, the diminutive Declan Donnelly joked that he may as well have been marking Burn at the corner instead, to which Ant McPartlin and Burn himself laughed.

“Can we talk about the goal and when the ball comes over and when Mac Allister’s stood there, it’s like me marking you!” he joked.

Ant then added: “He stood no chance really, did he?”

Eddie Howe shocked by Newcastle United fans in Carabao Cup celebrations

Even the Newcastle United manager was surprised at just how wild some of the celebrations were.

Howe was surprised to see supporters hanging off lampposts just to get a better view of the bus, putting themselves in a potentially dangerous position just to party.

Still, such is the nature of the Newcastle United support, that was hardly ever out of the question.

It had been a long wait to celebrate like that. Let’s hope the next time isn’t so far away.
