On Tuesday, the New York Giants signed quarterback Russell Wilson to a one-year deal, locking in their starting quarterback and giving head coach Brian Daboll the most accomplished passer of his tenure.
Wilson, coming off an up-and-down 2024 campaign with the Pittsburgh Steelers, is the Giants' most formidable quarterback since Eli Manning. In Year 14, he's expected to perform, lead, and ultimately be the bridge to New York's future, whether they are found in April or the 2026 NFL Draft.
Before inevitable adversity, the opportunity to write his final chapter, and all that comes with football in East Rutherford, he'll have the summer to stew in excitement. His wife, Ciara, joined him as he introduced himself to the fanbase.
Ciara sent a seven-word message to Giants fans after the Wilson signing.
"What a day," Ciara said. "Grateful for new beginnings."
Wilson, in a word, is excited for the opportunity that awaits him in MetLife Stadium. In fact, he used the word 31 times in his introductory press conference.
Joining him in New York is a fairly promising supporting cast. Receiver Malik Nabers is a star, and he's flanked by two competent starters. Running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. flashed as a rookie, totaling over 1,000 yards from scrimmage. Even the offensive line stands to improve in 2025 with improved depth.
"Now we can get to work in a couple weeks, few weeks from now," Wilson said. "We're excited about that. I know just being with the guys it's going to be a lot of fun. A lot of us want to get throwing already. I've already talked to Malik a little bit about that and Theo (Johnson) and some of the receivers, Darius (Slayton), Wan'Dale (Robinson), (Tyrone) Tracy. Just a lot of guys want to get together and start working. I'm excited about doing that right away and start spinning the football around with those guys."

It isn't yet clear whether a rookie quarterback will join him and benefit from his tutelage, but Wilson seems intent on leading the Giants into their next chapter, regardless of who's a part of it.
With unmatched enthusiasm and a personality that will endear itself to much of the fanbase, Wilson is one of a kind. It's on him to maintain that goodwill throughout the 2025 season.
"I think obviously for our family we're excited to be here just because it's the New York Giants, it's a great organization and they surround you with so much love and care and are rooting for you to be your best."
