BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WBNG) -- The New York Giants and Section IV partnered up for year four.
Chenango Valley High School hosted the section’s kickoff girls’ flag football combine.
“I love flag football, and I think everyone should play,” said Chenango Valley senior Madison Hubenthal. “People that maybe didn’t play their whole life or have never thrown a football before can jump in and learn how to play.”
The section works with the New York Giants to host the event, which attracts more than a dozen local teams.
Two members of Big Blue, former wide receiver Brandon London and current defensive end Casey Rogers, made their way to Chenango Valley on March 29.
Rogers, a Syracuse native, said he’s excited to see where the game can grow.
“The history books for girls’ flag football are brand new and wide open,” Rogers said. “It’s up to these girls to fill these pages.”
The athletes on hand participated in receiving drills, a 40-yard dash and more.
The athletes said everything they did at the combine can help them come the regular season.
“We take a lot of the drills that we learn here and put them into our practice,” said Hubenthal.
“Sometimes on offense, some girls don’t know what they’re doing, so this helps everybody, and we just get better from there,” said Chenango Forks sophomore Kendra Williams.
This season, 17 school districts from Section Four will compete in varsity girls’ flag football, and close to 200 schools will take the field across the state.
