Jets Fill Several Needs With ‘Unique’ Star In Latest Mock

As things stand, the New York Jets' era with Justin Fields will begin with a serious lack of weapons for the former first-rounder.

Just Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall loom as the "key" playmakers for Fields, with the Jets not having much depth at receiver and with Tyler Conklin moving on to the Los Angeles Chargers, not at tight end either.

That is what makes the Jets' first pick at No. 7 so fascinating, as the franchise could go receiver, tight end, or even offensive line...but what if they selected a player who could do all three?

Granted, when we talk about the offensive line, we mean being a good blocker, but in Pro Football Network's latest mock, Penn State star Tyler Warren is the choice.

"The New York Jets will be entering a rebuilding phase this season as they move forward with their new regime," Pro Football Network writes. "While they certainly have needs to address, taking the best player available might be the smart move. Tyler Warren is a unique playmaking tight end who can do many different things. With Justin Fields now at quarterback, investing in a tight end who can be a pass-catching option but also has run-blocking chops makes sense."

One could easily make the case that Warren would step into the No. 2 receiver and the starting tight end role, and the fact that he has solid pass-blocking ability as well, the Jets could, in theory, kill three birds with one stone.

Now, asking a rookie to do all of that is a tall order, but Brock Bowers showed last year that if the player has the talent, then the production will follow.

In Warren, Fields would get a genuine tight end who plays like a receiver and has the physicality and toughness to be an instant fan favorite.

Fields needs weapons, and in Warren, he gets a Day 1 starter who will also give Wilson a break from having to be "the" guy on offense every week.
