Real Madrid defeat “hurts” – but “football will pay us back in one way or another,” suggests…

Borja Jiménez insisted that despite a poor refereeing performance at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu on Saturday that left him _“annoyed”_, he still has _“trust in the referees”._

His CD Leganés side fought from behind to claim a first-half lead against high-flying Real Madrid, before Kylian Mbappé completed his brace to ensure [a 3-2 win for _los Blancos_.](https://fromthespot.co.uk/17937/real-madrid-3-2-leganes-los-blancos-come-from-behind-in-controversial-win-to-keep-pace-with-barcelona/)

Speaking in his post-match press conference, Jiménez insisted: _“I believe that we did enough to win today. We’ve had to cope with everything that happened during the match, which hindered us in every moment. We’re annoyed, because it’s now been three weeks that the team have deserved better results than they’ve had.”_

Leganés have won just two of their 11 LaLiga fixtures since the turn of the year, leaving _los Pepineros_ inside the relegation zone with only nine matches left to play. Still, Jiménez spoke positively of his players, and suggested that _“I’d be worried if I saw this team in a different way. We’ve been doing well and our football will pay us back in one way or another.”_

A strong performance against a side challenging for silverware in both LaLiga and the UEFA Champions League is evidence enough for the 40-year-old that his squad is on the right path, he revealed.

_“We knew that we were coming up against one of the title contenders, alongside Barcelona. Only Atlético \[Madrid\] and Barça have won here this season, and we were so close to doing the same.”_

_“It hurts us because we believe that we did deserve to win, but this strengthens us and will help us. I said to the lads that we make our path in training. The team wants it, we’ll fight for it and as I always say, it’ll be decided in these last five weeks and it depends on us.”_

CD Leganés’ next match will see them host CA Osasuna on Monday 7 March.
