CHERRIES defender Dean Huijsen will miss this weekend’s FA Cup clash against Manchester City due to suspension, but while he will be missed on the pitch, his presence is growing on the international stage

The 19-year-old made his senior debut for the Spanish national team last week, in which he bagged himself an assist, continuing a remarkable season of development under Andoni Iraola.

Speaking ahead of the upcoming cup tie, Iraola expressed pride in Huijsen’s progress but stopped short of calling it a surprise.

“Because now he has made the national team debut and has played well, people are talking more about him," he said.

"I think he played at the same level he was playing with us”

Iraola also stated that Huijsen’s performances have “been consistent” since his arrival. The [Cherries](http://www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/sport/cherries/clubnews/) boss also praised his performances from the start including his first away start at Nottingham Forest.

Iraola believes the young centre-back hasn’t necessarily transformed during the season but rather built on a strong foundation.

“Obviously, he has improved because he now has more experience," Iraola said.

"He has faced very difficult forwards, but we received already a very good player when he came in the summer.”

Bournemouth full-back, Milos Kerkez is also suspended for the FA Cup quarter-final after he was booked following an altercation with Wolves striker Matheus Cunha.

Iraola mentioned their desire to participate in the game this Sunday, despite their suspensions.

“I’m sure they would love to play this Sunday," he said.

"They've been helping us this week in a different way but they will at least have the rest and they will have to be ready for Ipswich.”
