Liverpool owners FSG are looking into a deal to purchase Spanish club Malaga. According to reports, French champions Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in a purchase for Malaga.

Malaga are currently in the second tier of Spanish football, in the Spanish Laliga 2. The club management of Malaga is currently under judicial control, with difficult legal issues surrounding a prospective sale of the club to the BlueBay Hotels group.

While the Spanish club are going through a tumultuous period, with the majority shareholder Qatari businessman Sheikh Abdullah Al-Thani being investigated for an alleged misappropriation of the club’s funds.

FSG potential club purchase

Reports have it that the FSG are in discussions to acquire the ownership of Malaga CF through a purchase of the club. A delegation of the FSG visited the club’s facilities in February to have clearer insight on the potential acquisition of the Spanish team.

This is not the first time in recent years that the John Henry owned company are in talks to purchase another club, GOAL reports that they were in advanced talks to take over at French club Bordeaux FC last summer, but a deal collapsed at the latter stages.

FSG have been on the lookout in Europe as they are seeking to bring them under their ownership in order to create a multi-club ownership model.

However, the intention of the Liverpool owners coincides with an interest from PSG owners Qatar Sports Investment. The QSI currently own the majority of the French club, and own 20% of Portuguese club Braga.

According to reports, the FSG are looking to buy the 51% of the club owned by majority shareholder Abdullah Al-Thani, but PSG owners want to buy 100% of the club.

It appears that the acquisition of Malaga will go down between both club owners, as the FSG will be aiming to beat the QSI in the race.
