Former Pittsburgh Steelers running back makes Ufl history

Spring football is now here, as the UFL kicked off on Friday. As the games continue into Saturday, multiple former Pittsburgh Steelers have impressed.

That includes Kalen Ballage of the Arlington Renegades. A veteran trying to find his way back into the NFL, Ballage is the starting running back for the Renegades.

In the team’s opening game against the San Antonio Brahmas, Ballage made UFL history. He notched a 77-yard touchdown run, the longest run in UFL history. On the play, Ballage broke out of a crowd and outpaced everyone to the end zone.

Ballage, 29, was a fourth-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft out of Arizona State. His first two seasons in the NFL were with the Miami Dolphins, but he never found consistent success with the team. In 2020, they cut him, and Ballage joined the Los Angeles Chargers and New York Jets for separate stints.

The Steelers scooped him up in free agency and played all 17 games for the team, primarily as a special-teams player and the RB3 on the depth chart. Since then, he has not returned to the NFL, despite having multiple workouts with other teams.

Ballage played for the Brahmas in 2023, and did not play anywhere in 2024. Now, he is back in the spring leagues, and playing for the Renegades where he hopes to find his way back to the NFL.
