The end of the season cannot come soon enough for Manchester United and particularly their manager Ruben Amorim.

United head into the summer transfer window needing to make huge, fundamental changes to their squad if they are to avoid a repeat of this nightmare season. One of their key areas which they will want to improve is the strikeforce.

Both Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have been goal shy this season so a new centre-forward would be just the tonic for Amorim. In our latest look at the media headlines, one striker appears to have given United a boost in signing him.

Osimhen willing to make United sacrifice

According to TBR Football, Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has his heart set on moving to the Premier League this summer and is eager to get a move done as quickly as possible. Not only that but the centre-forward, who is currently on loan at Galatasaray, would be open to moving to United even if they do not have Champions League football next season.

United's best bet of reaching the Champions League next season would be to win the Europa League. That campaign returns next month with a two-legged quarter-final against Lyon.

What MEN Sport says: Viktor Gyokeres' figures with Sporting cannot be overlooked however the safer, and arguably better bet, would be to approach Osimhen in the summer. Napoli need to get rid of the striker sharpish in the summer so his transfer fee is likely to be reduced to around £63m. He has also performed consistently at a higher level than Gyokeres and you just feel he would fit in perfectly with the system that Amorim is creating. Bringing the Nigerian forward to the club would be a huge statement of intent for those around them.

Real Madrid plan £90m Fernandes bid

In a rather surprising update, the Daily Star understands that Real Madrid are preparing a bid to lure Bruno Fernandes away from Old Trafford. The United captain has been the standout player for the Reds this season and Amorim's men would be in real danger without his goal contributions.

It is believed Real have had scouts constantly watching Fernandes and they are ready to test both the club and player's resolve in the summer transfer window.

What MEN Sport says: Considering the smart transfer negotiations that Real undertake, it seems unfathomable that they would spend £90m on a player who is 30. Fernandes is a brilliant attacking midfielder but that does not seem like a wise financial strategy. Should that bid come in, Ineos may find it very difficult to reject considering the current state of the finances. However, the captain's departure would create a huge gap in the squad and leave a big task for the recruitment team to fill his boots.
