Harry Amass had an 18th birthday to remember - just hours after opening his presents he was introduced to Old Trafford to make his professional debut.

Amass joined the Red Devils from Watford's Academy in June 2023 - and after impressing in the U18s, Ruben Amorim handed him his big chance against Leicester.

The full-back might not have felt much pressure at the Theatre of Dreams - as he'd already turned out at Wembley.

Amass was part of a school side representing Colchester United that rocked up to the home of football in the Utilita Kids Cup final during the 2017/18 season.

Colchester had romped to the final of the tournament - they won every single game, scoring 11 goals and conceding just two. With 1-0 victory against Cheltenham Town securing their spot after a free-kick in the final minute.

The final awaited against Morecambe, and an evenly matched encounter was broken when a brilliant piece of skill from Adam Fairclough - who now turns out for Morecambe's first team - left his marker bamboozled.

His fierce left-footed effort left the Colchester goalkeeper with no chance. Colchester pushed for an equaliser but were unable to find one, handing the cup to Morecambe.

Amass isn't the only future star to turn out in the tournament - and Adam Wharton has also made it to the final in recent years.

He explained ahead of the Euros last summer: "We played in the tournament every year with a bunch of schools from Blackburn. When you win that, you go onto another tournament where you represent Blackburn.

"We went to Bolton Academy for the next tournament, where we played other Clubs from the Championship at the time with schools representing them, such as Wigan and others.

“We won that and went to the Final, where we played at Wembley against a team representing Bournemouth before the 2015 Play-Off Final on the pitch. We won on penalties 3-2 and then got to watch the Play-Off Final.”

“It was one of the best moments of my life at the time,” he added. “I’ll never forget the day. It was a great moment and something I look back on, for sure. Those are the moments that stick with you, no matter what you go on to achieve in your career.
