Ant and Dec admitted their “dreams came true” after being allowed onto Newcastle United’s open-top bus parade.

Thousands of supporters lined the city streets to welcome the Wembley heroes - 12 days on from beating Liverpool. Estimates are that over 300,000 supporters watched Eddie Howe and his players parade the Carabao Cup through the town centre,

A bus route from St James’ Park, past Gallowgate, up Percy Street and towards the Town Moor created a sea of black and white across Newcastle upon Tyne. The festivities continued at the Town Moor, with special guests including Les Ferdinand and Alan Shearer.

Geordie duo Ant and Dec - arguably Newcastle’s most famous fans - hosted the event once the players took to the stage. The duo reflected on the early bromance when the two grew close due to their common love for the Magpies.

“I have to say, that open-top bus parade… I knew you would make Newcastle proud,” Ant told supporters at the Town Moor event. “That just proves that you are the best fans in the entire world. We (Ant and Dec) met on Byker Grove back when we were 13.

“We used to go and watch Newcastle. We bonded over Newcastle in the Gallowgate End. The real reason everybody is here today is to celebrate that fantastic team that we all saw win 12 days ago at Wembley.”

Dec also laughed at seeing “kids in trees” during the wild open-top bus parade. He added: “It was absolutely incredible. You had kids in every tree and people hanging from every lamp post. It was absolutely amazing and a dream come true to be on that bus today.”

Eddie Howe is hungry for more at Newcastle United

Eddie Howe backed the Magpies to win more silverware - but switched focus immediately to the Premier League run-in. He said at the event: "We are hungry for more but, without getting ahead of ourselves in a sense, we now have 10 huge Premier League games to go back to and try to focus on that. The taste of success leaves you definitely hungry for more days like this."
