Liam Delap is'intrigued'by Chelsea project but striker who'has everything'could now prevent Stamford Bridge move - opinion

Chelsea are interested in Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap ahead of the summer transfer window.

Enzo Maresca needs more cover for Nicolas Jackson, and it looks like Delap has been identified as someone who can come in and provide the 23-year-old with just that.

As for the player himself, he appears to be open to a move to Chelsea this summer. However, a problem could arise for Delap.

As well as the England U21 international, Chelsea also have an interest in Viktor Gyokeres, Benjamin Sesko and several other strikers.

How Benjamin Sesko could deny Liam Delap of Chelsea move

Amid their interest in him, it has been claimed that Delap is “intrigued” by Chelsea’s project, suggesting that he is not against a switch to west London.

But it would not be a surprise if the Blues turned all of their attention to Sesko and forgot about Delap.

The Chelsea Chronicle has been told that Sesko is a player the club like, and right now it appears that the 21-year-old is keen on a move to the Premier League.

According to Bild, Sesko’s preference is to join an English side once the transfer window opens in the summer.

Simply put, the chances of Chelsea signing Sesko have gone up, which is bad news for Delap if he is dreaming about joining Maresca’s team.

Sesko is having a fine season at Leipzig, scoring 17 goals in 37 appearances. The Slovenian is still very young as well, so it is no shock that Chelsea are interested in him.

Benjamin Sesko’s 2024/25 stats Appearances Goals Assists

Bundesliga 26 10 5

Champions League 8 4 0

DFB-Pokal 3 3 1

Total 37 17 6

With some of the Premier League’s other top sides also thought to be keen on Sesko, though, there is obviously no guarantee that Chelsea will sign him.

What Djordje Petrovic has said about Benjamin Sesko

Chelsea goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic, who is currently on loan at Strasbourg, watched his Serbian teammates take on Sesko and Slovenia at Euro 2024.

Going into the tournament, Petrovic had a lot of good things to say about Sesko, hailing the Leipzig star as the complete striker.

“He’s a forward who has everything a modern player needs,” Petrovic was quoted as saying by The Standard. “He’s tall, strong, fast and intelligent. I’ve watched some of his matches. Of course he can play in the Premier League. Absolutely!”

For Chelsea, Delap will still probably be the easier deal to do, especially if Ipswich go on to see relegation. But with Sesko wanting a move to the Premier League, Delap could be forced to join another club.
