Everton may now have an advantage in their pursuit of Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff this summer.

Longstaff is on Everton’s radar ahead of the summer transfer window, with the Toffees aiming to bring the Englishman in to strengthen their midfield.

David Moyes is a fan of Newcastle gem Longstaff, but with the midfielder being a diehard Newcastle fan, who came up the ranks through their academy, striking a deal for the 27-year-old may not have been easy.

However, it now appears that the midfielder could be on his way out of Newcastle, with Everton ready to pounce as his stance over a transfer has emerged.

Everton are admirers of Longstaff and even tried to sign him in January, but Newcastle refused to let the player leave as they aimed to compete in three different competitions.

The midfielder is struggling to break into the team ahead of Joelinton, Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes, and could leave for more game time, but this would mean departing his boyhood club.

Longstaff was snubbed by Eddie Howe in Newcastle’s Carabao Cup final victory over Liverpool, with it now clear that he is falling further down in the pecking order, and Everton could now benefit.

Everton could seal bargain Sean Longstaff transfer

It now appears more likely that Longstaff will depart Newcastle rather than staying, and he could be a shrewd signing for Everton.

Longstaff’s contract runs until 2026, meaning that he could be signed for a cut price fee as an extension looks unlikely.

This would mean Everton sign a player potentially coming into his prime years, with bags of Premier League experience under his belt, for a low fee.

With Abdoulaye Doucoure one of several midfielders who could potentially depart this summer, a proven low-cost option such as Longstaff would be a superb signing if Everton could convince him to move.

Longstaff has made 210 appearances for Newcastle over the years, but has managed just eight league starts this season, with his current predicament at St James’ Park unlikely to change next season.
