‘Starting to see…’ Man Utd academy coach says Ruben Amorim is now unleashing youngster he has ‘real faith’ in

Ruben Amorim’s season at Manchester United might not have gone as he would have liked until now but coming midseason has its own advantages.

Ruben Amorim is now more familiar than ever with this Man Utd squad which gives him a leg up while deciding their futures in a pivotal summer window.

Furthermore, he has had the chance to look at Man Utd’s famed academy and pick out players who can form the spine of the next great United team.

Chido Obi is a first-teamer now while Harry Amass has received his long-awaited senior debut. Meanwhile, Man Utd academy coach Nick Cox has said Amorim’s actions back his word up by naming a youngster he’s unleashing now.

Ruben Amorim has ‘real faith’ in Man Utd youngster

For a manager who came on the back of giving many debuts at Sporting, Amorim’s first few months at Old Trafford were concerningly contrasting.

Amorim even faced the wrath of Man Utd fans for not filling his bench with academy players or giving them only ceremonial minutes near the end of the games.

However, as the team has started to become more fluid and confident, he’s started playing youngsters, a major beneficiary of which has been Toby Collyer.

Collyer was Erik ten Hag’s favourite but injuries saw him struggle to get a move on under Amorim. However, with those worries behind him now, he’s seeing regular minutes.

That hasn’t been lost on Nick Cox, who said (Via Manchester Evening News), “There are players in the team, in the first-team squads and there have been debuts given. You’re starting to see him put real faith in Toby Collyer.”

“He obviously has a real excitement about young players and helping them, but listen, they have to be good enough, there’s no favours or charity given. It’s exciting times for the young players.”

Toby Collyer is saving Man Utd millions in the market

Collyer clearly remains a work in progress in terms of his ability on the ball but he’s got the most important things down perfectly – professionalism and drive to run.

Much like Scott McTominay, that will ensure that Collyer will always remain in any manager’s plans and if he adds goals/assists to his game, it will make him undeniable.

Already, Collyer is favoured over Casemiro in physically intense games, where Amorim values his intensity and ability to mop up things through sheer desire to win the ball back and close down spaces.

It feels pertinent to note that Collyer was chosen to have a small stint at wing-back after Ayden Heaven’s injury at Leicester before Amass received his debut.

That speaks volumes about the trust Amorim has in Collyer, and it could save United millions in the market because they will need midfield reinforcements in the summer.

As Cox said, Collyer already has earned “real faith” from the manager.
