There is no disputing the fact that Kalvin Phillips' career has been on a downward trajectory since the midfielder left Leeds United three years ago.
But could the England international make a sensational Elland Road return this summer? His days look numbered at Manchester City and rumour is rife Phillips could rejoin the Whites if they clinch promotion to the Premier League.
Former United defender Michael Gray is convinced Phillips would be a "good signing" for United. In an interview with Betfred, Gray said: “It’s home for Kalvin. He had a great time there the first time around before he got his move to Manchester City, but things haven’t worked out for him there.
"He’s gone to Ipswich to get more regular football, but over the years he’s had injuries too. I want to see him play 10-15 games in a row because that hasn’t happened a lot over the past few years and that’s unfortunate for him because we know he’s got the talent and we’ve seen that at international level too.
“I do think he would be a good signing for Leeds, I really do, because Leeds are going to need a holding midfielder if they get promoted to the Premier League and Kalvin fits that bill because Leeds United have an exciting style of play where the holding midfielder role is important and Kalvin is a player that can help take Leeds to that next level.”
Multiple reports have also credited the Whites with an interest in Norwich City star Josh Sargent. The forward has been one of their standout performers in their promotion tilt.
It is no secret Daniel Farke is a big fan of the USA international, having worked closely with the player at Norwich City. Everton, Nottingham Forest and Major League Soccer outfit FC Cincinnati are also reportedly interested in adding Sargent to their attacking ranks.
“He’s got that physical presence, change of pace and an eye for goal," said Gray. "If he does move to Leeds if they get promoted, then his success in the Premier League will be determined by the level of service he gets and the confidence he takes with him. I think he could be a very good signing for Leeds United, no doubt about it.”
