A matchup between an English Premier League mainstay and a lower-tier club is set for Sunday to determine who moves on to the FA Cup Semifinals as Preston North End plays host to Aston Villa.
One of the unlikeliest matchups in the FA Cup at this point, EFL Championship side Preston made their way to the quarterfinals with a relatively easy path, all things considered. After beating League One foes Charlton Athletic and Wycombe Wanderers, they knocked off league rival Burnley to advance to the round of eight for the first time since 1966. The team has not made it to the semifinals since losing in the final in 1964.
While in the midst of fighting for European positions in the EPL, Aston Villa is in the FA Cup quarters for the first time since they lost in the championship match 10 years ago. The Lions had to beat EPL sides West Ham and Tottenham Hotspur before taking down Cardiff City in the fifth round.
Aston Villa is 57-21-38 against Preston North End. This is the first meeting between the two since 2018.
