Aston Villa players thought to be staying at Barton Manor Hotel this weekend potentially had their sleep disturbed by an unexpected fireworks display.

The Champions League quarter-finalists meet Preston North End at Deepdale at 1.30pm today (30 March) for the Lilywhites’ first FA Cup quarter final in decades.

Tickets for the game are sold out and a trip to Wembley for the semi-final is on the line for the victors. Aston Villa are clear favourites but PNE will be highly motivated in their biggest fixture in years.

Residents around the Barton Manor Hotel, where Aston Villa’s first team are thought to have stayed overnight, were treated to an evening of fireworks with reports at 2am and 4am this morning of a display close by.

Robert Walsh, who works at UCLan, wrote on social media platform X at 3.45am stating: “Woken at 3.43am by fireworks in Barton. Wife none to happy but neither will the Villa players in the Barton Manor Hotel!”

It is not known who set off the fireworks and no Preston North End fans have taken credit for the display.
