'I'm not going to lie': Dan Burn jokes he is sick of watching his famous Newcastle goal

Dan Burn is a Newcastle United hero like few others.

Newcastle United have of course had supporters of the club play for them before but none of them have enjoyed quite as big a moment as Burn did earlier this month.

The defender scored the opening goal as Newcastle beat Liverpool 2-1 to win the Carabao Cup at Wembley.

Burn was excellent throughout the Carabao Cup final contest but the goal – a brilliant header – is what will live long in the memory.

The 32-year-old had just been called up by his country at that point and Burn made his England debut against Albania, capping off a brilliant week in his life.

Naturally, Burn was part of the proceedings as Newcastle players and staff celebrated winning the Carabao Cup with an open top bus parade past St James’ Park and across to the Town Moor.

As expected, he was asked about that goal and gave a pretty surprising answer.

However, earlier on in the day, Burn was asked about it by Sky Sports presenter Keith Downie.

Surprisingly, the defender admitted he was “sick” of watching it back, having seen it so many times over the past few weeks!

“I’m sick of it, I’m not going to lie,” he joked.

“Everywhere I look it seems to be on! But, as I said, it probably still hasn’t sunk in. I think today’s helping because of the emotion and how happy everyone is.”

Arne Slot was shocked by what Dan Burn did for Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final

To Burn’s credit, he’s much more than that one goal. His career has been one of ups and downs, embarking on a journey through the Football League after being released by Newcastle United as a young boy.

Now an England international too, it’s obviously not the only huge moment in his career.

Still, it wasn’t just a header from a set-piece. It was a well-angled, skilled effort from an impressive range, something few of us would be able to pull off.

In fact, Liverpool manager Arne Slot admitted he’d never seen a header like Burn’s, which underlines the quality of it.
